چکیده

The deterministic active appearance model (AAM) tracker fails to track objects under occlusion. In this paper, we discuss two approaches to improve this tracker ’s robustness and tracking results. The first approach initialises the AAM tracker with a shape estimate obtained from an active contour, incorporating shape history into the tracker. The second approach combines AAMs and the particle filter, consequently employing both shape and texture history into the tracker. For each approach, a simple occlusion detection method is suggested, enabling us to address occlusion.

Active Wavelet Networks for Face Alignment

The active appearance model (AAM) algorithm has proved to be a successful method for face alignment and synthesis. By elegantly combining both shape and texture models, AAM allows fast and robust deformable image matching. However, the method is sensitive to partial occlusions and illumination changes. In such cases, the PCA-based texture model causes the reconstruction error to be globally spr...

Multi-view Active Appearance Models for the X-Ray Based Analysis of Avian Bipedal Locomotion

Many fields of research in biology, motion science and robotics depend on the understanding of animal locomotion. Therefore, numerous experiments are performed using high-speed biplanar x-ray acquisition systems which record sequences of walking animals. Until now, the evaluation of these sequences is a very time-consuming task, as human experts have to manually annotate anatomical landmarks in...

Active appearance models with occlusion

Active Appearance Models (AAMs) are generative parametric models that have been successfully used in the past to track faces in video. A variety of video applications are possible, including dynamic head pose and gaze estimation for real-time user interfaces, lip-reading, and expression recognition. To construct an AAM, a number of training images of faces with a mesh of canonical feature point...

Anatomical Landmark Tracking for the Analysis of Animal Locomotion in X-ray Videos Using Active Appearance Models

X-ray videography is one of the most important techniques for the locomotion analysis of animals in biology, motion science and robotics. Unfortunately, the evaluation of vast amounts of acquired data is a tedious and time-consuming task. Until today, the anatomical landmarks of interest have to be located manually in hundreds of images for each image sequence. Therefore, an automatization of t...
